My Review – Black Doves streaming on Netflix My rating
Helen embarks on a passionate affair with a man who has no idea of her secret identity. Caught in the crosshairs when her lover falls victim to London’s dangerous underworld, Helen’s employer enlists Sam to protect her. Bingo, the owner of the guitar shop where Sam buys his guns, is played by Rat Scabies, a member of the classic punk band The Damned. Starring in Graham Norton I like: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024).
85/10 Think back to those great sentimental British Christmas movies like Love Actually and Last Christmas
Well, Black Doves surprisingly has a few of those holiday moments in its six dramatic episodes. I say surprisingly because this British spy thriller has some very violent moments with shootouts, executions and some very dark moments, however, these scenes are almost comical or maybe like many, I have become a little desensitized to violence on TV and in films. . Black Doves, brilliantly directed by Alex Gabassi and Lisa Gunning and written by Joe Barton, stars Ben Whishaw, Keira Knightley and Sarah Lancashire, all on top form as very dark characters with double lives, working together and independently in a quest to solve the murder.
of a senior Chinese diplomat
. Playing a role very different to anything I have seen him play before, Ben Wishaw plays Sam Young, a friend of Helen Webb, played by Keira Nightly. These two trained and unlikely assassins work for their ruthless boss, Reed, played by Sarah Lancashire in another splendid departure from her usual police detective. papers.
I suspect and hope we’ll see another series of Black Doves, it’s a quality production
Reed is a real scene stealer in Black Doves, as she sells secrets to the highest bidder, regardless of their national allegiance. Black Doves is a fast-paced novel with many interesting characters, including Helen’s husband Wallace, an influential and ambitious politician who is unaware of his wife’s double life until the dramatic conclusion. The other supporting role I enjoyed was that of Kathryn Hunter as Lenny Lines, another ruthless assassin recruiter. As I mentioned earlier, I was surprised by some of the lighter touches of snow scenes, Christmas carols, and presents around the tree, which I thought added another dimension to what could have been a very dark series.
